While I don't accept insurance directly, your insurance plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will reimburse you for a portion of our session cost. Typically, out-of-network benefits cover 50-80% upfront on therapy sessions. During our intake process, I can help you verify if you have out-of-network benefits and how much your co-pay would be. I can also provide superbills (proof of payment) if you’d prefer to submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Most PPO plans offer out-of-network benefits and typically reimburse 50-80% of the cost of each session. To learn about your benefits, call the member services number on the back of your insurance card. Below are some questions to ask your insurance company:
1. Do my out-of-network benefits cover outpatient psychotherapy services? (Other names for this are “behavioral health” or “mental health” services)
2. What is my out-of-network deductible?
3. How much of my deductible has been met this year?
4. What percentage of the services do you reimburse for?
5. Is there a limit to the number of sessions you reimburse for?
6. What are the reimbursement rates for codes: 90791 (intake), 90837 (53+ minute session), 90834 (45 minute session), and 90853 (group therapy).
7. What is the reimbursement process?
8. How long will it take for me to receive reimbursement?
9. Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?

If your workplace provides you with either an HSA or FSA account, you may be able to use funds from these types of accounts to help pay for therapy.

I believe that all individuals deserve greater accessibility to mental health treatment. I have observed insurance create limitations to care based on diagnosis, session frequency, and methods of treatment. I have also unfortunately been affected by some common exploitative practices by health insurance companies and cannot participate in a system that prioritizes profit over the well-being of its members and the providers who care for them.
