4 Reasons I Joined Open Path to Offer Affordable Therapy

Therapists have many directories to choose from when advertising services. Few give us an easy way to connect with clients who do not have adequate insurance for psychotherapy. Whether you’re a therapist or a client, Open Path fills this gap.

1. For one in five adults in the US, the need for adequate mental health coverage is a necessity. Unfortunately, most insurance companies have not met this need. This failure in the system creates a barrier for providers to connect with clients. I firmly believe in reaching across the divide to people who cannot afford current mental health sessions (which average between $80-$200 in the US). Adequate health insurance is a privilege that many do not have, and my privilege as a therapist compels me to be part of the solution.

2. Open Path offers free advertising, which generates new referrals. Since joining, I have seen a steady stream of new clients inquiring about services. Open Path offers a user-friendly setup, a clean directory layout, and responsive customer support.

3. This is also an easy way to support the BIPOC community, who statistically have less access to health insurance. 30 million people remain uninsured in the US and about half of those are BIPOC. More than 90% of these people don’t have insurance because their state did not expand Medicaid. If there’s another way, why not take advantage of it?

4. Lastly, Open Path offers some great benefits including discounts on educational materials, training opportunities, and platforms offering electronic health records. Everyone loves a work perk!

Although there are many places to advertise therapy services online, I highly recommend Open Path due to its helpful connection for therapists and people who might not otherwise have access to services. I feel motivated to help people who might not have the same opportunities as I do, and this is just one way I choose to do that. If you are a therapist interested in doing the same, please use my link to sign yourself up for a free Open Path membership. If you are a client interested in services, check out the link to my Open Path profile.
